Welcome to 2018 at the Newburgh Swim Club

Hello NBSC members!

The 2018 season is almost here. We are looking forward to a safe and fun year with lots of good weather.

This season marks a change for NBSC. Ron Adams has stepped down as President. After 3 years as President and numerous on the board, Ron has decided to enjoy the club with a little less headache. If you see Ron this summer, please thank him for his tireless service to our club.

Furthermore, stepping down was our VP Kevin Bouzas and our snack bar director Dawn Weber. Both Kevin and Dawn have been on the board for numerous years and their knowledge and assistance will be greatly missed.

The board has been working hard to prepare the club for opening and are currently working on staffing the club with quality team members.

As most of you know, we had a major issue last year with our main sewer line which caused the club to close down a few days. It was a challenge for the board and costly to the club. With the help of Newburgh member Ted Barker, the club was able to fix the problem and clear out the line. I would like to thank Ted for his time and effort as he donated both to the club.

Grounds News

Deck Project

Last fall several members pitched in and helped us remove the wooden deck on the south side of the pool. Thanks to everyone that helped out with the work. This saved the club some money on not having to hire the work out and hopefully everyone enjoyed the time spent with follow members while improving the club.

Our plans for this space is put down cement where the deck once used to be. A fence will be placed between the existing pool deck and the new cement area. This will create an area with the feel of the pool deck but since it is outside the fence both food and drinks will be allowed. We will be placing some of the chairs that were previously on the wooden deck in this area.

We will also be putting a gate in the new fence creating an additional entry point onto the pool deck.

Swim Team News

We’re very anxious to get back to the pool! This will be our second summer as directors, we learned a lot about our League last summer and are ready to share with you some changes.

We are happy to have 2 returning coaches, Coach Blake and Coach Sara. Coach Blake is taking over the head coach position. We are lucky to have Joey Ferracciolo joining as an assistant coach. You will recognize him as he has been a lifeguard at our pool for some time.

We will run the same 3 practice times for our age groups that our listed on the Newburgh web page. The first day of practice will be on June 18th. We are always looking for new swimmers! If your child is interested in joining the team, plan on coming to our parent meeting on June 3rd from 2-3pm under the pavilion. At this meeting you will get all the information needed and we can answer any questions you may have. We will let you know the dates of our swim clinics, this is a good opportunity to meet with the coaches to see if your swimmer is ready for the swim team. Finally, please see our swim schedule so you can plan your summer trips accordingly. Looking forward to a great summer season!

Membership News

Invoices for the 2018 season have been mailed and there are only a few days left to get those invoices sent in before the deadline. The postmark on your properly addressed and stamped envelope must be on or before March 31, 2018. (That is the date stamp made by the post office – NOT the day you drop it in the collection box.) Anything with a postmark of April 1 or later is considered late and will be assessed a $50 late fee, without exception.

In accordance with our bylaws, all unpaid memberships will be sold as of May 1. So please mail early; plan for out of town time, and use proper postage and the correct mailing address. You must mail your payment. Please DO NOT post-date checks – all checks are cashed when
received. A $35 fee is assessed for any check that bounces.

Membership update forms need to be completed and included with dues checks, even if there are no changes to your information.

If you are selling your membership before you pay this year’s dues, please be aware that Sell Requests also must be postmarked before April 1 st , or a $50 late fee will be deducted from your returned bond. Sell Request forms can be found on the website. Mail early to avoid late fees!

A meeting for all new members of the club will be held on June 3rd at 1pm. We welcome all of our new members to come and join us to learn about their new club and all that it has to offer. Members of our Board of Directors will be on hand to speak about club procedures, schedule of activities, opportunities to volunteer and give back to the club as well as answer any questions new members may have.

Locker Rental

Members will be able to rent lockers for the season to keep personal items at the club. The fee for the season long locker rental will be $30. If you are interested in reserving a locker for the season please send an email to comments@newburghswimclub.com and we will put your name on the list. Lockers will be assigned and money will be collected once the club opens up.

Volunteer Opportunities

The club is always looking for people to volunteer their talents to help make the club a better place. Whether this is selling treats during the swim meets, cooking lunch during the 4th of July party, or helping with simple clean up or repairs around the club.

If you feel you have a talent that could be used to help make the club better and would like to donate some of your time to make it better please let us know. You can always speak to anyone on the Board of Directors if you run into them at the club or you can send an email to comments@newburghswimclub.com

We can’t wait to see you all at the club this summer!
